Comprehending and Connecting With Text During Instruction
Help me give my students tools to improve comprehension of books we are reading during guided reading. These tools will help teachers and students work together to develop a reader's connection between letters, words, and ideas.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is in the city of Richmond. Our urban school receives federal funding for programs that provide free breakfast and lunch for every student. Our students, teachers, and families are proud of our school and work hard each school day. There are many days that teachers and students work before and after school in order to provide additional instruction and activities for students and their families.
We are truly a community of learning dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of all of our students and supporting families.
My Project
By donating to this project, you will be providing instructional materials that will be used by classroom teachers during small group reading instruction. These tools will be used during reading instruction to encourage readers to deepen their connection to their reading experience.
Students will improve comprehension, writing, phonics and word study skills while being actively engaged in guided reading lessons with these instructional tools.
The magnetic letters allow students to build and break words which is a strategy that can be applied during reading and writing. Reading is about comprehending the text. Students will use the comprehension cards and the teacher will use the prompting cards to help students to deepen comprehension and become better and more confident readers.
