My students need a fun and engaging way to learn and remember how to make, write, and name compounds, and what better way then learning through cooperative game play!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Nothing makes me happier than hearing my students say that statement.
It is what drives me as a teacher. My students come from diverse backgrounds and interests, but the common thread with all of them is that they have an interest and a passion for science.
Students in my chemistry classes are self-motivated and driven AP and pre-IB students, and they have a thirst for learning new information and for understanding and applying it as well. For my pre-IB students, this is their first exposure to chemistry, and I want to foster, encourage, and support an interest in the topic. My AP chemistry students are students who have taken chemistry previously and have decided that it is a subject they want to continue to pursue and investigate further.
My Project
I am requesting donations for the board game Compounded because it is a fun, engaging, and accurate way to have students practice building compounds. This will be used to introduce the concept of compounds, and throughout the year to help keep students well practiced on their compounds.
With this practice, students will be better set for all chemistry that comes after this, because compounds are the basis of all chemistry.
Not only does this game have students using their knowledge of naming compounds, it also has elements of utilizing strategy, cooperation, critical thinking, and planning. The benefits of this go beyond just the content of chemistry knowledge, and can have impacts in other classes as well.
