These students will be returning to school to begin their second grade year after their first grade year was drastically impacted by COVID 19. They are feeling a range of emotions from anxiety to excitement. They love science and most have expressed their love for playing and learning outside.
My Project
Our state has recently required composting as a solution for food scraps in an effort to lessen our environmental impact. There is no better time to give students a variety of composting solutions and educational tools around this practice to build upon community buy-in and solution finding. A variety of composting methods will be taught, pursued, tested, and analyzed through this project that will last through the entire school year for the second grade students. This theme will incorporate math, science, and literacy standards, as well as life skills involving waste management, gardening, and animal husbandry. Help me to influence tomorrow's innovators so that we can find greener, more sustainable solutions for our communities.
