In the words of Gustavo Dudamel, "It's not that people don't like classical music. It's that they don't have the chance to understand and experience it." I would love to give my students the chance to understand and experience the beauty and grace of classical music through this special project.
The 4 C's of Common Core curriculum involve creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.
My class embodies all of these traits, especially if you add in a dash of the cuteness factor! We are always striving to find creative ways to communicate our learning through collaborative projects, and this project is another example of how we aim to meet these goals while incorporating the arts into the curriculum.
My Project
Scene one. . . Envision a classroom where the sweet and sorrowful tones of a violin concerto can be heard as students create paintings and artwork that reflect the mood and atmosphere of the music. Scene two. . . Picture a group of students researching a composer and creating a collaborative project that includes music and art. Scene three. . . Watch students use their critical thinking skills to match a classical musical composition to a famous piece of art. Scene four. . . Imagine a mini museum in our classroom, where parents and community members alike partake of the creative atmosphere that our classroom will be transformed into as a result of this inspiring project. All of these scenes are just a sampling of the activities I have planned for my students that will utilize the resources I am requesting.
I strongly believe in the inspirational power of the arts.
I am certain that this project will have a transformative affect on the students by bringing beauty and culture to their lives while increasing their interest and engagement in the value of inquiry learning.
