My students need TIME For Kids so they have the opportunity to achieve proficiency or better on high-quality 1st grade state standards.

First grade is an important year for student growth and achievement. My students are entering the first grade eager and ready to learn how to read, however, many of them do not have access to books at home or a library within reasonable distance to their homes. This puts students at a disadvantage at an early age. The more books and access to materials students have at home, the greater their chances are getting to and remaining on grade level in reading/comprehension. Location and economic status should not determine a student's access to education.
TIME For Kids interweaves and supports ELA standards and skills that build to college and career readiness. TIME also employs scientifically-based methods and instructional practices to aid in efforts to improve the school academically, increase learning time, enhance the curriculum, and meet the needs of historically underserved populations.
In my classroom, we will use TIME to explore important Science and Social Studies topics in an effort to provide exposure and increase the rigor of existing curriculum.
TIME For Kids helps educators reinforce the Common Core State Standards, with a focus on the important ELA Career and College Readiness Anchors of Reading, Writing, Speaking & Listening, and Language. And because the articles are all informational text, standards for reading social studies, math, and science standards are reinforced, as well.
