Completeing Reading Corner Revamp

My Students

I work at a large school of around 650 students from Kindergarten to 5th grade. We have a heavy population of free and reduced lunch. We also have a heavy population of Special Education students of all severities. We are also in the area of the Opioid Crisis, and we have a huge amount of foster children with multiple social, emotional and psychological problems. These students seem to learn engage more in self selected reading when they have alternate options of where to sit and it is nice and inviting. These could always be used as cool down spots when students become over stimulated.

My Project

In this project I am looking to add some new bookshelves and book bins to help complete our reading corner refurbishment. My students have loved the new rug and beanbags that we added earlier in the year! Reading is such a vital part of every education and continuing to work to make it a relaxing and inviting environment seems to be a big plus to my students! Reading scores and goal are being met and surpassed in part thanks to our new reading area. This area is utilized several times a day as this is now their favorite place to be!
