Complete or Incomplete Metamorphosis? That Is the Question
Help me give my students a butterfly, ladybug and praying mantis habitat kits to provide observable life cycles showing complete and incomplete metamorphosis.
My classroom communities are ever changing and I am committed to help my students learn about the world through hands on experiments and observations. I teach 2 math and science classes that consists of 6 and 7 year old girls and boys with a thirst for knowledge about the natural world they live in.
My classes are filled with wonderful students that come to school full of energy and ready to learn.
The students have a need to learn more about the natural world they live in. By raising questions and observations the students will become independent, self-directed learners.
My Project
The butterfly, ladybug and praying mantis kits will enhance the students EYE on LIFECYCLES by providing a way for students to raise questions about the natural world, investigate through free exploration and observation and generate explanations.
These kits will enhance the students EYE on LIFECYCLES by providing observable life cycles showing complete and incomplete metamorphosis as well as teaching the students how to respect and show empathy for other living things.
The students will use these kits to observe, journal and compare the different stages of the butterfly, ladybug, and praying mantis life cycles. The students will also be able to observe the behaviors in each stage of their life cycle. The students will further research an insect of their choice and write an informational book about the insect explaining why the insect is important to the world and how we can help protect it. We are hoping this project will be ongoing by creating an outdoor butterfly garden that can be used to further our understanding of the behaviors of these animals as well as others and how they interact in the natural world.
