My students need high-interest books, such as Amulet and Bone series, to keep up with their excitement for reading. As they get hooked on book #1 of a series, they are quickly running to the next!

it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Heroes. My little humans are heroes within their own lives. I find that many of my students have undergone life-changing experiences that make them so diverse and resilient. Experiences that many adults themselves have never gone through.
Nothing stands in their way; they are full of laughter and character that can turn anyone's darkest day into a pocket full of sunshine.
Even with the cards that they were dealt, they manage to meet my high expectation in and out of the classroom. They are my little heroes.
My Project
My students have begun their new year in 5th grade on full sprint mode towards making reading growth! In the short week and a half of school since summer break, my students have demonstrated enthusiasm and love for reading. Every day I introduce a book from a different series in hopes to eventually reach all my students' and their personal interest. I can hardly keep popular book titles, such as Diary of Wimpy Kid and Dork Diaries, on my shelf.
My goal is to get students hooked on series, so they know what to read next and build stamina & momentum towards reaching reading growth.
I have attained many great series through personal shopping and donations, but missing a few here and there. Having complete series would enable my students to move forward in their reading endeavors.
Furthermore, I have asked students for input on their "wish list", and titles such as: "Bone", "Dog Man", and "Baby Mouse" kept getting brought up. So much that I knew I needed to do anything possible to make these copies appear before my students. I know that the graphic novels above will specially be helpful for my struggling readers and students on a reading IEP (individualized education plan) due to their illustrations.
