Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I direct a unique program at our school, a dual enrollment program with the local community college, where my students complete their A-G requirements with me in the morning, then go on to two college classes of their choice in the afternoon (under my supervision and advisement). The students in this program are from low-income families in the area, and my class is 98% non-white demographic, and from 70% first-generation immigrant families.
OCC program is a rigorous and comprehensive course providing a college-level learning experience that prepares students for college-level courses.
It allows seniors to refine their academic analytical skills, to develop oral and written debate strategies, and to understand the comprehensive nature of civics and artistic expression.
OCC develops analytical thinking and writing skills for college and career with the understanding of leadership and civic duty.
Important to know: I do not tolerate racism, sexism, or any mean-spiritedness within discussions or writing. I am committed to developing a safe space for students to try out new thoughts, to discuss untried, and possibly controversial ideas, and to discover new and uncharted schools of thought.
My Project
With access to new iPads, my students will be able to not only access material quickly and efficiently, but also learn and understand more advanced tools for research, more control over their own writing and research, more access to handling technology.
Students need better access to new technology in order to compete in the 21 Century market.
With the instruction and practice with these iPads, the senior high school students will be ready to handle alternative technological modalities for their future studies. They are ready; we just need a little support.
