Help me give my students a chance to foster compassion for animals by giving them supplies such as clay, plants, and ground cover to create animal habitat models.
Many of my students face challenges in life due to poverty, unstable housing, and language barriers. Although life is not easy, my students are extremely positive, grateful, and happy children. Our school faces the same issues many other schools face in low socioeconomic areas. We strive to meet the basic needs of our students so they are successful in school. My students are amazing people. They are extremely motivated, positive, and honest.

My Project
I will teach my students about animal welfare and conserving habitats of living things in a hands-on way. Third graders learn about animal habitats, conservation, and animal and plant life interdependence. My plan is to have the students research animal habitats, including adaptations and plant relationships, and then create a model of an environment of the animal of their choice. The students will use the clay to form animals and their environment. The realistic looking plant life and ground covering will help them demonstrate their understanding of the animal habitats through the students choosing appropriate supplies to decorate the habitat boxes.
These resources will help my students learn lasting lessons about compassion for animals or conservation.
Upon creating their amazing projects, they will then put them on display for others to view. My students will orally present their models and describe the animal habitats and the importance of conservation to their peers.
