Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Spilled chocolate milk, mud puddles, nose bleeds and accidents happen in school, especially in the primary grades. Oftentimes students need a change of clothes, but when parents are working, it can sometimes take an hour or 2 for a family member to bring a new set of clothing to school. In some cases, a family friend or neighbor may be called to just come pick up the child and bring them home if clothing cannot be provided by a parent. When this happens, a child misses valuable class time over an issue that could be resolved within minutes.

Having brand new, gender-neutral clothing on hand for quick changes will be a game-changer.

If a student has an accident or medical situation that didn't call for them going home, having clothing in various sizes can help them get cleaned up and back to class within minutes.

This project will also benefit students with immediate clothing needs, like in the case of a fire or displacement from home. The school nurse, family resource coordinator, social worker and other school personnel can provide families with emergency items right away.
