The first-grade students in room three are very motivated readers. We love doing our individual silent reading time in the cozy spots around the room. We curl up on pillows between filing cabinets, sit in plastic Adirondack chairs, and rock in scoop chairs with our book bags of self-selected books.
Our new reading program comes with high-interest big books that we love reading during whole group instruction, but they are too large to read while curled up in a cozy spot.
We would love to have smaller versions of these books. Rereading these books will help us improve our fluency, gain comprehension, and increase our love of reading.
My Project
My class loves the big books that we read during whole group instruction with the Being A Reader Literacy Program. These books having great stories and beautiful illustrations. Regular size versions of our big books will allow my students to reread the books during individual reading times in our comfortable reading spots around the classroom. Rereading helps to improve fluency and comprehension. It also creates a love of reading.
Over in the Meadow is a class favorite and we would love to have different versions such as Over in the River and Over in the Jungle.
We will have fun reading and comparing these great stories.
