Posts, tweets, and chats are a common form of communication in this world that is overtaken by social media. This form of communication can misunderstood and take away from the social conversations that we all need. It imperative that we teach face-to-face social skills.
Learning conflict resolution and ways to speak and play are critical.
The students I teach are social beings. Gaining students’ cooperation in urban classrooms involves establishing a classroom atmosphere in which teachers are aware of and address students’ cultural and ethnic needs, as well as their social, emotional, and cognitive needs.
In this first, second, and third grade classroom, I can help make a huge difference in how conflict should be handled, how to politely have interactions with one another, and how to just enjoy the moment of being a child with common games and spaces.
My Project
In our classroom, we have an interesting combination of students. We differ, not only in age and gender, but in socio-economic status, culture, and background knowledge. The materials from this project will give the students access to comfortable seating in a defined space and opportunities to interact.
Community and relationship building bridges that gap in differences.
We are looked upon as equals and friends, and we need to continue to cultivate connections with one another. Interactions give students an opportunity to learn good sportsmanship, turn-taking skills and how to follow directions. The goal of the materials requested is to offer these opportunities. These skills are so important.
