This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My second-grade students come from diverse backgrounds and enjoy learning at a K-2 Title One school located in North Mississippi.
They are a compassionate community of learners who support one another academically and emotionally.
They read and write, work and play, laugh and cry TOGETHER.
My Project
Students will participate in a traditional classroom read-aloud by following along in their own book. After reading and discussing the book in the classroom community, students will take their copy of the book home. This will allow students to build their home libraries while sharing the joy of books with their families.
Through the diverse characters and cultures represented in these books, students will broaden their knowledge of the world, nurture empathy, expand comprehension and critical thinking skills, and become better citizens of the world.
The selections for this project include Native American and Latino characters who discover their own strengths in the face of authentic challenges.
