This year the majority of my students are encountering their first time in a school setting. They are coming from a low-income area of Ohio. They need a lot of one-on-one help, as they are three to five years old, and some are students with learning disabilities.
My students are very energetic and eager to learn, and they have a lot of fun doing it!
With every lesson taught, the students are expanding their minds. I have many students that will be going on to kindergarten next year, and I plan to have them equipped with all the skills that they need to be successful in their academic careers.
My Project
Each year, I give a three week lesson on community helpers; we visit the library, have a police officer visit, and sometimes we go to the fire station.
With these materials, I will be able to support facts about our trips around the community.
The mail carrier costume will be a big hit in my room. We already have a mailbox, but what’s a mail carrier without the uniform? We always read a book called Trashy Town and the kids adore it. Having the trash truck will be an added bonus. Also, the book about recycling trash will give the students a new way of looking at trash. I will also be able to incorporate trash art in our theme with this book.
