Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are the reason I came back to teaching after my retirement. Someone once asked me "Can I see your lesson plans?" My response as I pointed to my children, "There's my lesson right there in front of us." I come to work to open the minds and hearts of my students.

My students question everything.

They are a blank canvas. It is an awesome responsibility to help guide them through their first formal learning adventure. My students favorite phrases begin with 'why, how, what, when and where'. It is my challenge to help them discover the answers to their questions.

My Project

My students are fascinated by the firefighters in the neighborhood. As the trucks go past they are filled with many questions. We will begin a "community helper" unit soon. We have a field trip planned and will utilize all the community helpers in our neighborhood. One of our trips will be to the fire station and one to "Lego Land". We would like to have community helper characters made by Lego to correspond with these trips.

As we move into the future it is vital that these children are afforded every opportunity to become successful.

Technology is moving so quickly the students need to be on the front line of this advancement. Two Insignia tablets will allow them to access educational games while moving independently around the room working collaboratively with one another. They will begin to understand the tablet can be used to access information as well.
