Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a class of 25 amazing, curious second graders. Our classroom community is a place where we value each other and strive for everyone to grow intellectually, socially and physically. My students are kind and supportive of one another. If one student is having a hard day, the rest of the students go out of their way to help make it better. It warms my heart to see the love that is shared among my students, from positive notes to making sure everyone has a friend to play with!
My Project
Having a bright red carpet in our classroom as our gathering place will provide a comfy area for my students to meet! The ability for children to learn to relate to one another and build positive relationships is essential in a classroom community. The number one way that I can build a successful classroom community is to take the time to hold a class meeting everyday. This is an essential part of building a community in the classroom because it enables students to speak, listen, exchange ideas, and settle differences. Our carpet will be the ideal classroom meeting place.
Our bright red carpet in our classroom will be a place for more than just our class meetings!
It will also provide an alternative for whole group instruction. The carpet will provide flexibility to our classroom. We will be able to work with our slates on the carpet. Students' learning will be enhanced by have a comfy meeting place in our classroom.
