I teach 24 bright young scholars who are from various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. My school is a Title I school so about 50% of my students qualify for free/reduced priced meals. My students are energetic, helpful and love to learn!
Even though they are all different, we focus on celebrating those differences!
Our district is very diverse with over 100 different languages spoken. My students come from a range of home lives including very poor to middle class families where some have literacy support at home and some don't. However, all of these love to read and love to see their progress in all academic areas!
My Project
Our class focuses on celebrating diversity and what better way than to start the school year off with books about diversity and kindness? These books will set the class norms right at the beginning of the school year about how our class community works. They will also be available for students to read throughout the year to encourage their love of reading.
The pocket chart is needed for the new phonics curriculum our school is starting to close in the gaps for all students.
The phonics curriculum has a lot of letters, digraphs, and blends that need to be displayed and practiced every day. This pocket chart will make that work easy and fun.
