My students need to see themselves and their community reflected in the books we share in our classroom. They can make connections while becoming life long readers.
The fourth grade students in our room come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures to form an amazing community of learners. Our class is a safe place where each student is valued.
Our students are inquisitive, caring, enthusiastic and ready to learn.
My job share partner and I are excited for our third year sharing a classroom together. Our combined years of experience provide the students with a variety of learning opportunities.
We work hard to establish a learning community with high expectations. Reading, sharing books, and writing are daily activities. Our students are excited to share and discuss their ideas with each other in meaningful converations. They are becoming life long learners and leaders in the community.
My Project
These books will bring literature and conversations into our classroom that will create real life connections for students. By engaging with these books, students will encounter multiple perspectives in a variety of different settings. They might see a reflection of their own family and experience; or open a window to new cultures and customs they had never considered before. Reading quality children’s literature will bridge ideas regarding learning styles, language, ethnicity, religion, culture and physical abilities. Students will read, share and find themselves reflected in the pages of these books.
Reading and discussing the stories will become a gateway into building empathy for others and will empower students who do not always see themselves reflected in the the books they read.
Observing them make connections and share their ideas with others is truly amazing. When students are engaged in learning, they become motivated to continue to grow and explore. Having this collection of books from diverse backgrounds will help to inspire students to become readers and leaders. They will honor the traditions and cultures from their own families and learn about the lives of others.
Our students will grow as readers, as well as build bridges in understanding the lives of those in our community. Your donation will truly make a difference in the lives of our students.
