Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are an amazing, vibrant collection of enthusiastic artists in a Title I inner-city, coastal Connecticut community with 100% free lunch and there never seems to be an end to other urgent needs.
We welcome many immigrants and transient families to our community and engage students as they navigate every kind of emotional and social challenge that you can imagine.
Economic need is high, but creative passion is even higher! Please help our creative and talented students touch the wonderful materials they need to thrive and explore.
My Project
My hungry 1st -5th grade students have been helping me organize and serve breakfast on our boring free cereal Fridays. For a population with food insecurities on a cold winter morning, this is a big deal and it is improving attendance. Being able to play restaurant is something I had not counted on the students loving, but our pancakes are so popular that we are running out of paper plates on which to serve them! We have enough mix to offer 9000 more pancakes but the weekly expense of these paper plates in order to serve them is holding us back. I am astonished at how serious my young students are about serving other students so I think they will seriously flip out when I make the job official by decorating these hats as our school "house of pancakes". I'll find some trays and we will have a real diner going on! Thanks for your support, pass the syrup please!
