Help me give my students a poster printer for the school. We have little access to any printing services in our remote location in Alaska. Being able to print our own posters will be great for the school.
My students are a very hands-on and inquisitive group. They have grown up in an environment that is definitely not for the faint of heart. The temperatures during the winter in our community in Kiana, AK routinely reach -40 to -50 degrees, but my students have learned to thrive in this environment and use what the land offers in awe-inspiring ways. I am truly humbled every day as I watch and learn how the Inupiaq people have survived in this area.
The subsistence and outdoor lifestyle with very little access to big box stores, or any stores in general, leads the students and residents to come up with their own creative solutions.
This poster printer will help greatly with raising community awareness.
I am hoping that with this project the students can be inspired to use the "New" resources available to help the village continue moving forward, while also providing inspiration for students to look at careers/paths beyond high school.
My Project
The printer will be used to raise awareness for community events, school functions, and awareness issues. We can print suicide awareness posters to help spread a good message in an area where suicide is very prevalent. We can also raise awareness on Covid issues which are currently hitting our area pretty hard. The students will also be able to create posters to use for presentations they need to make in class. The printer can also be a source of revenue for the school as we will be able to sell posters that others in the community may want made. Thank you again for considering our project.
