Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My caseload consists of 41 amazing students ranging from Kindergarten to 5th grade. These students are all on the Autism Spectrum and are in an ASD special program within our school. Each student has unique language needs.
Communication is the key to their academic, social and developmental growth.
Their communication skills vary. My caseload includes students that are non-verbal and are working with AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) devices, students working on social skills and students working on other language/articulation skills.
My Project
The books and games I'm requesting for my kids will help them be engaged during therapy sessions. Games and books are a great way to engage students while still targeting their goals. Therapy sessions range from 15-30 min of language enrichment. It is important to make each session meaningful and productive.
With these materials, the students will be engaged and have the ability to grow in their academic, social and communication skills.
Books will assist their literacy skills, as well as target comprehension goals. Books are a great way to target sequencing skills, retelling and comprehension. Games will not only make therapy fun and engaging, but will also foster social communication.
