My students are from a low-income school district that face many challenges every day in and out of the classroom. They face those challenges with a positive attitude and are always willing to learn and try something new. With that, I want to be able to have my students know that school is a safe learning place that offers a variety of different learning opportunities. As an anonymous author stated, "All children can learn just not on the same day or the same way." I want to help my students learn their potential to be successful.
Students in my classroom have learning and emotional disabilities but come to school with a smile each day ready to learn as if it is the first day all over again.
Due to socioeconomic status, all of the students in the school get free breakfast and lunch every day. My students may have struggles, but I know that in my classroom they are #1 and will be taught as such!
My Project
As an ESE Teacher I want to help my students communicate their ideas, emotions, and needs so they can be heard. My non-verbal students have wonderful insights in learning so much, but frustration comes on many levels when they are not understood. This happens at home, in the community, and at school. With the Go Talk I am hopeful that I can help my students with speech and language so they can express themselves.
The donation of this project will help my students improve with speaking so they can be heard!
The Go Talk and software will help them hear words that they use every day and practice vocalizing words. This project will also help my students express their ideas, expressions, and needs. When a student becomes frustrated because they are not understood it makes learning difficult. With learning to speak my students can actually call their mom "mom" for the first time in their lives. Parents start crying because they can understand their child and know they helped ease the frustration by placing them in a class that works hard to establish their voices. Please help my students find their VOICES so they can be heard!
