This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My pre-K students come into our classroom every day looking forward to a new learning opportunity. One of their favorite parts of the day is called small group time. During this time, students work alongside 8 other students and me to develop their kindergarten readiness skills.
I expose them to different types of student-friendly activities that tap into the 7 domains of Early Childhood Development.
These domains are gross motor, fine motor, language, cognitive, social-emotional, adaptive and moral.
I want my students to have a positive view of school and to feel successful in grades to come. I teach at a Title I school in a large city in Michigan where almost all of my students are living at or below the poverty line. Many of my students had no prior experiences with basic kindergarten readiness skills before entering my classroom.
Despite their struggles, my students deserve the best classroom environment, one that allows them to blossom in the previously mentioned areas.
My Project
Technology is a huge part of the Pre-School classroom. In today's society it is the most efficient way for teachers and students to communicate with their parents. In this project, I requested a Laptop, cleaning wipes, and batteries. At work time, students will be able to explore the computer with minimal teacher support. Students will be able to research content on any subject they choose. It will also be used as tool to help bring their creations to life.Students will be able to create digital works of art that can be printed or uploaded right to parents. The batteries on the other hand will be used to keep our technology running. This technology includes: radios, keyboards and flashlights. And of course the cleaning products will be used to prevent the spread of germs from all this hands on learning.
These materials will allow us to input anecdotal notes, upload pictures on the go and keep our technology clean and running for continued play.
With your support you will help bridge the gap between the home and school community. This is an area that many teachers struggle with and with these materials I will be better prepared to reach my parents in more ways than one.
