My Students: During the May 20th tornado, our school lost the use of our intercom system about an hour before the tornado came through Moore and damaged three schools. We had to use two-way radios to communicate and we did not have enough for all teachers to be connected!
My Project: On May 20, 2013, when the tornado came through our community, we realized where our school lacked in safety.
Around 2:00pm, parents fearing the weather starting arriving at school to check their students out. Around the same time, we realized our intercom system was not working. We had to use two-way radios to relay information down the hallways of our school. Our system of having one radio for every grade level created more confusion than we anticipated and kept our school from having the best communication possible.
We need a two way radio in every classroom in our school to help provide safety for our students in any emergency situation that may occur. This project starts with two radios as other teachers from our school will be requesting more to complete our need.
My Project
During the May 20 tornado that ripped through our community, we realized that our back up system of communication was lacking. Our intercom system went down about 1 hour before the tornado hit the Moore area. Each teacher in our building needed to have a two-way radio for communication, we did not. It caused some confusion that could have been avoided. This even affected our system to alert the classrooms to take tornado precautions. Two-Way radios would have eliminated a big portion of the confusion.
Our students need to know that the faculty has the ability to communicate with each other ALL the time.
The students that we serve need to know that they are safe. Communication is the Key for that to happen.
