My students come from countries all over the world with vastly different backgrounds which makes them each especially unique. They are eager learners; excited to learn English, how to read, make sense of the universal language of numbers and solve equations. For some, it is their first experience in school and for many, their first time being read to. They quickly begin to love books, using math manipulatives and learning through versatile approaches! They are faced with many challenges as they live in high poverty neighborhoods and struggle to overcome language barriers, cultural differences and gaps in their learning. They are strong and work hard to be the best they can be. The potential they have to succeed is enormous!
My Project
Communication between home and school is vital to a student's success. Take home folders help keep students organized, provide parents/guardians the opportunity to send and/or receive school work and notices and teaches second grade students the responsibility to bring home and return their own folders.
Communication is also key in the classroom.
Please consider donating white clipboards and dry erase supplies to our classroom so that students can participate in activities on the go. White clipboards are used for informal assessments, mobile activity centers and let's face it, they save a ton of copy paper!
