My Students

I am a speech-language pathologist working with preschool and elementary-age children. Many of my students have complex communication needs and rely on various forms of light-technology and high-technology communication supports to make their thoughts known.

For students who have little to no functional speech, assistive technology is a vital link to the rest of the world.

I work with these students to find optimal technology to meet their needs, to teach them how to use it competently, and to teach the significant others in their lives how to communicate with them effectively.

My Project

For my students with little to no speech who are just beginning to use intentional forms of communication, such as facial expressions and vocalizations, these devices will introduce them to voice output and enable them to participate more fully in academic and social activities within their classroom.

All children, regardless of the extent or severity of their disability, have something to share and the right to share it.

Without the necessary assistive technology, many children without speech are functionally voiceless. These devices will provide a voice and help them develop communication skills they can transfer to other modalities of communication.
