My students include a wide range of children with different cultural, linguistic, and developmental backgrounds. As the Speech Language Pathologist for my elementary school, I serve students with varying speech and language delays. Since day one, I've been constantly impressed by the motivation my students put forth. They may be at a disadvantage to their typically developing peers, but that doesn't stop them!
An overarching goal I work towards is teaching my students to self-advocate.
While each student is hard working and determined, they often lack the knowledge on how to use their unique skill set to stand-up for themselves. Watching my students learn that they have the power to express themselves truly is priceless.
My Project
The technology of an iPad can assist my students in a multitude of ways. For some, an iPad with the right communication apps becomes the voice they never had. For others, an iPad provides the visual support needed to make a lesson click. The possibilities are truly endless!
An iPad will allow my students to access language in new and innovative ways.
There are countless iPad programs/apps being made to address speech and language deficits. I've seen first hand how this technology can seamlessly enable students to find their voice and speak for themselves. Thank you for your time and consideration!
