Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the first time you wrote your own story? That is the new challenge my kindergartners are facing with the new common core standards. Kindergarten isn't about just learning to write your letters anymore. My students are now writing informational and narrative pieces.
My students come from a very high poverty area in California.
Many come from broken homes without a father figure. They are fun loving 5 and 6 year olds who love school and cannot wait to learn new things. My students are bright, friendly, generous, respectful, loving, and my list could go on and on. They are hard workers who always strive to do their best and I am proud of them.
My Project
The resources I am requesting would make a huge difference in our classroom. This year our writing standards have become extremely rigorous. My students are now expected to learn how to write several different pieces of writing: an opinion piece, an informational piece, and a narrative piece. In order for my students to be successful writers we will need different writing materials like pencils, markers, crayons, paper, sentence strips, and journals. Having access to these materials will help my students move from good writers to great writers.
This donation will make a big difference in our classroom.
Due to the economy and the state budget, our school has been hit really hard. These are kinds of materials that I purchase out of my own pocket due to the decrease of funds for my classroom budget. These materials would make a big impact during my writing lessons and I know my students would benefit greatly.
