Common Core Reading Materials

My students need reading materials, including CD-ROM activities, a games library and a teaching kit, so that they can become more successful with the upcoming COMMON CORE testing. These materials will help maximize their success!

My Students

Students at our school have many great abilities and are great kids. Some students come from middle class homes, while many others come from homes where both parents are trying to make ends meet and are very busy. The materials I have selected will aide these students and allow them more success.

My students are FABULOUS...each and every one of them know that they are capable learners and they are in charge of their own destiny.

Students in my class are interactive and allowed to have a voice. Students at our school primarily are on free and reduced lunch (92%) so our needs are greater than most middle American families/schools. Students attend a school that is K-6 grades and we are concerned with student achievement. Students at this school also are pulled out for reading interventions for 30 minutes each day, so you can see that we are striving to ensure that struggling students have available resources and optimal opportunities for learning. Students usually don't have the advantages of other students, in that they are from very low income homes, most are on free and reduced lunch, and many go home to empty houses at the end of each day. Students are eager to learn and thirst for knowledge. These materials will help quench that thirst.

My Project

Students will benefit so much from these resources. As a teacher I purchase a lot of materials on my own and this will really help defray the cost of those purchases. Students in my class will be so happy to have other materials available to them so that they can diversify and use materials that are more real life and give them a broader, deeper understanding of reading and reading comprehension. Inference skills are among the most difficult for students at this age to understand. Drawing conclusions based on their reading does not come naturally to many students. These materials will help guide them through the inference process as they develop into stronger readers. Additionally, because we live in Arizona and many of our students are from the South, Mexico, the vocabulary development is sometimes pretty weak. I have chosen a few vocabulary building games in hopes that through these games/activities students will build a stronger foundation for vocabulary. Please take a look!

I have been a teacher for 18 years and never have I seen such a need for supplemental materials and additional supplies for students.

Students come to us very needy and it is my hope that students leave with the learning and knowledge that they need to go on to lead productive lives. I try to make a difference in the lives of not only the students I teach, but to all who I come in contact with. Some days we may be the most important influence our students have. I want those days to count!
