My Students

Our school is moving to the Common Core Standards. This is one of the titles that is considered an exemplar for 10th grade. I have one class set, but I need two more class sets so all students can take books home to read.

My students are interesting, thoughtful, and eager to learn.

They live in a community where education is not the top consideration for their daily lives. Most of their parents have not gone to college; most of them will not attend college either, but some will attend Vocational school junior and senior year. Most will graduate school, especially if they find success sophomore year.

My Project

Fahrenheit 451 addresses censorship, previously discussed when studying The Holocaust (Night by Elie Weisel). We will research topics introduced in the novel, such as the Internet and the importance of literature. We will be reading this text during Banned Books Week to illuminate censorship. Students will learn how literature not only comments on life but also reveals the future: the internet had yet to be created during the writing of this novel.

This is a great text, but I don't have enough for all 3 of my classes to read it at the same time.

It would help my students if they could take books home for homework. Please, help make this happen for them.
