Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help my students achieve the Kindergarten Common Core State Standards.
My students are part of an Early Intervention program.
Their ages range from 4-6 years old. They all have special needs ranging from Autism to Speech and Language Impairment. Our programs funding has been significantly impaired. Last year we only received 200.00 and with that money I had to purchase ink for the computer, paper for the copy machine, and Velcro for our communication books.
My Project
Our district is very excited about implementing the new Common Core State Standards in the area of math using Cognitively Guided Instruction. All children, including our Special Education students will need to learn how to use the new strategies to learn and access the core curriculum. These materials will be used daily to help our students learn the new math standards. They will be expected to make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. They will be expected to reason abstractly and quantitatively which is something that is very difficult for our students with special needs. The materials that I am requesting makes learning these standards much easier and on a level that is developmental. The materials are child friendly and makes it easier for the adults to make the lesson into a fun game rather than feel like work. The kit includes write and wipe boards activities, 5 and 10 frames, various counters, number lines, and 40 activity cards.
These materials will be a tremendous help to our classroom.
So many of our children with special needs can achieve grade level standards but need a little more help compared to their non-disabled peers. Thank you for considering donating to our project. The Staff, Parents, and students are very appreciative.
