This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever tried driving a car without the keys? Or watering a garden without a water hose? That's what it's like teaching a brand new curriculum without the necessary resources. Frustrated teacher and frustrated students. How can I teach what my students need when I don't have the materials?
My classroom is composed of 25 first graders in a school with too many students and not enough teachers or room.
Currently our school is in the process of moving music and ell teachers to rooms in the adjoining community center just to have space for the new first, second, and fourth grade classes. With the need for more room and more teachers, it is nearly impossible to have the funding needed for a brand new reading program.
My Project
My students need a variety of books for this new common core reading program. These books are informational, cross curricular, and some are read alouds. This new program is a GREAT way for my students to learn in a cross curricular approach, but we desperately need the resources in order to do so. I'm requesting a variety of books for teacher and student use to meet this need. With these resources, my students will have the ability to learn in new and captivating ways.
This project will not only introduce my students to the necessary books and information needed in this brand new reading program, but it will also help them become lifelong lovers of reading.
I hope, with the help of donors like you and this project, that my students will fall in love with reading like I did when I was a young child. With these new books, my students will be learning the required information through a variety of interesting resources.
