Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students really need resources to help them access the Common Core curriculum, especially non-fiction stories. My third graders love to read and show what they know and they need a lot of small group activities to help them learn.
I teach third grade in a lower socio-economic area of So.
Ca. The majority of my students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch at school. A large percentage of our student population are English Language Learners. A lot of my students come from homes where there is only one income and one English speaking parent.
My Project
I am requesting non-fiction reading comprehension folders, a small group comprehension teaching center and an activity center for comprehension strategies. I am also requesting foundational skills learning centers for my students to use in small groups. With the introduction of the new Common Core there has been a big push for foundational skills at all grade levels. I do not have materials to help my children learn foundational skills.
Once these skills are mastered then comprehension strategies need to be taught and mastered. There is a big push for non-fiction reading in 3rd grade. We are always looking for stories to use to teach comprehension skills. These center and small group activities that I am requesting will allow me to teach the necessary comprehension strategies that my 3rd graders need to read complex text.
Your donation to my project will help my students be successful life long readers.
It is so important for children to be able to fully understand what they are reading. Thank you in advance for helping my students become successful readers that enjoy what they are reading.
