Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Gifted and Talented students, 85 to be exact! Ranging in grades first through sixth. I also have the privilege of working with every Kindergarten student in hopes of identifying gifted and talented potential at an early stage of development!
My students are funny, creative, intelligent and most of all, full of questions!
They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take high risks to grow both personally and academically.
Many students in my classroom come in saying they have difficulty with focus and comfort because of a lack of classroom supplies and comfortable, flexible seating. Our school is a Title I school in Arlington, Texas. My students, although very resilient, continue to have classroom needs larger than what I or our hard working parents can provide.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning experiences and strategies, challenges and group work. I would love some help to provide additional classroom supplies and alternative seating.
My Project
Great thinkers and doers need space and tools that match their potential. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. By allowing choice, flexibility and variety in our classroom, I am handing them the keys to drive their learning.
A classroom with flexible seating lends itself well to self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication.
It will allow our Gifted and Talented learners to develop innovative products and sophisticated performances that reflect individuality and creativity.
Currently my students sit in chairs and desks that are all the same, offering no flexibility. When learners are afforded choice and flexibility they almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk. The items I have chosen are aligned to do just that - provide flexibility. With your help with funding this project, my students will be able to choose their space and seating option that will maximize their learning and ensure they exceed their potential!
