My Third graders are ready for an academic take-off . . .hold up-it looks as if the magic carpets are a little faded and outdated! Time for an upgrade...
I teach within a school system that services middle to low income families.
Our system is funded mostly by property taxes and lottery purchase monies. Most children receive free or reduced lunch and most do not have proper school supplies unless the school or teacher provides them. These disadvantages do not have any bearing on their intelligence, because despite obstacles, they are very observant and curious people...all they want is attention and someone who listens to them intently.
As one can imagine, classroom carpets go through it every year. They encounter dirty shoe soles, spills, and food crumbs during holiday parties. I would like new carpets because they will make my classroom look more cozy and appealing. I would like the Counting to 100 and Spanish/English Painting by Numbers rugs in particular because I can use them as learning tools-even as learning stations! With the Counting to 100 rug, the students will basically use it as a giant, life-sized hundreds chart. They can identify odd/even numbers, place value, add/subtract numbers-ANYTHING that can be studied in Math... With the bilingual Painting by Numbers rug, students can review their colors and numbers in both Spanish and English! I have Spanish ancestry, and I believe it is important for people to recognize vocabulary in BOTH languages. The country is so diverse and it is becoming more so as time goes on; it's best to embrace it and learning different languages is one way of doing so.
Your donation will ensure that I am providing a healthy and inviting environment wherein to teach my children.
You will make it possible for a common classroom item, a carpet, to be so much more-a learning tool. Thank you for your help-we appreciate it!
