My Project

I greatly admire anyone who moves to a new country and acclimates to a new life. I myself cannot even imagine how frustrating it can be to be placed somewhere where you do not know the customs or the language. For the past few years, my school has received a number of multilingual students who do not yet know how to speak English. My school is in an urban setting where 90% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Additionally, we have a growing number of multilingual students from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and Iraq. While I am able to communicate with my Spanish-speaking students, I am unable to speak in Pashto, Arabic, or Urdu.

Every single student in my classroom should be able to feel successful, regardless of their native language.

These translation devices will help my new students communicate with me, as well as their peers. Online translation services can only do so much because the keyboards are not designed for the unique alphabets of these languages. I want my new students to be able to talk with ALL of their classmates, not just those who speak their native language.
