60% of the students in my class lost their homes and belongings in Hurricane Harvey. In addition, they lost their classroom too. We began school a month later than planned at a local church in town.
My students are brave and adaptable.
These are just a few words I could use to describe them. They have embraced this year and have made the best out of the traumatic time in their short little lives. I cannot say enough good things about this sweet little class.
My Project
Our school is currently holding classes at a local church in town. The children started the year eating sack lunches while sitting on the floor in the church welcome center. We have since begun using the church dining room and have adult sized tables and folding chairs for the children to sit and eat at.
When we get to go back to our school, these students need a cafeteria-style table to sit and enjoy their lunch at.
Our students have been through so much this year after Hurricane Harvey hit our town. Our town was devastated by the storm, but we are excited to rebuild and get back to our normal routine. Our students must have a place to eat their lunch when we get back in our building.
