Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from mostly low-income families. Our school is an ethnically diverse school and is located on the south side of Chicago. Many of our students speak both English and Spanish. Also, I work with an amazing staff that brings so much passion and energy to our school community.

My students are all very hard working, creative, and insightful.

All of them are 3rd grade students. We am very lucky to work with such a wonderful group of student who fill our days with joy and smiles. They love to learn, laugh and create. They continue to amaze me every day!

My Project

We have many readers who are doing so well with the graphic novels we have in our class. Students really enjoy reading Dog Man, Captain Underpants and other stories that contain interactive graphics!

It would be very beneficial for our class to obtain additional graphics novels/ comic books because they help the reluctant reader and give confidence in comprehension to students who have trouble decoding.

Students can find plot, vocabulary, character, problem and setting information by just looking at and discussing pictures. These pictures guide the reader in helping with all types of comprehension! The children also laugh and share these books, which promotes a caring classroom!
