Help me give my students comic books, because who doesn't love comic books and with all the digital stuff right now, I almost forgot about old-fashioned comic books. Until a student requested them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach the fifth grade in a highly diverse New York school district that has over 50% of kids receiving free or reduced-price lunch. I teach reading, writing, science, and social studies to one class, and advanced math to another class. As a fifth grade teacher, I teach all the major subjects, so I am fortunate to have my class for more than one period, which enables me to have them work on complex, multimedia projects.

My students have been doing their HW every day since September and a kid in my class asked if I could get comic books for the classroom.

My Project

This is a simple project - a classroom comic book library will be created with the comics, for use at school, AND, all the kids in the class will be able to choose one comic to start their own comic book collection. And then, students will be creating their own short comic books in class. We'll make a classroom comic book compilation and photocopy it for the class and their parents. Maybe even the school.

For significantly less money than books, we can get many comic books, and get a new generation of kids into all the great comic book characters.
