My students need 1 large classroom rug. The rug would be a gathering place large enough to accommodate our class of 25. Our classroom is all tile floor with no carpet, which can often be cold.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a Montessori school in the inner city. My kids range from the age of 4 to age 6. One of the many great things about Montessori is that my students stay with me for two consecutive years.
My kids are independent hard workers.
They are taught at a very early age how to manage their own work and get things done independently. I love that I get the chance to work with each student individually every day while others are working by themselves or helping another child.
My Project
The rug would make our room look more appealing. We spend most of our day working on the floor with small work mats. The large rug would be a central area for group time.
Our day starts and ends with a circle time.
The rug would give my students not only a great visual, but it would also be more comfortable. My students would use the large rug during large group activities such as morning yoga, music, calendar, show and tell, end of day wrap up. We have a mobile listening center for 6 students to use at the same time that I plan on moving to the large rug daily, during our work cycle.
