The number one rule in my classroom (frequently recited by my students) is, "Always try your best!" I believe that every child deserves to be proud of whatever his/her best is... no matter what that looks like. I encourage my students to be proud of their progress. Always.
I teach in a Title I school where a majority of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
They deserve a chance to reach their potential. One way I am helping them do that, is by moving toward a flexible seating environment. This allows for different types of learners to be comfortable so they can get the most out of their educational experience.
I am moving toward a completely flexible seating model in my classroom. Many of my students prefer to work on the floor. They are all different sizes, so working on the floor levels the playing field for some of them. It really helps them see each other eye-to-eye better than sitting at a desk.
These Comfy Floor Seats will allow groups of all sizes to engage in Academic Discourse more comfortably.
They can work in pairs or triads around the room with a little more cushion and nice back support. They are working so hard to be amazing scholars, and I hope to make that effort a little more comfortable for them!
