Kindergarten is such a great year with tremendous imagination. My students are caring, playful 5 and 6-year olds that are eager to learn. They are learning their letters, sounds, numbers, and how to read. The class loves to learn through hands-on activities where they are continuously engaged. They learn in many different spaces whether it is at a table or on the floor, as well as in small group or whole groups.
This is also a wonderful age for reading aloud to them, as well as them learning to read independently.
They become so excited they are learning how to read. Because of this, they enjoy reading to each other in comfy places around the room.
We always make sure each student is receiving the instruction that helps them the most. My students are wonderful learners and are very productive while having fun.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to enjoy different environments to learn instead of sitting at a desk. In Kindergarten, reading is a big concept that they start to really grab ahold of as the year goes on. Currently, my students are choosing to work at locations in our room at tables and on the floor. Some students need to have different views throughout the day in order to learn. Movement and choice are important for 5 and 6-year-olds. Flexible seating gives them the movement they need and gives them choices for their needs in learning.
Making sure students are comfortable while they are learning is an important part of motivating them to do their best.
If they are given a comfy space, they become more excited and willing to strive in their academics. My students enjoy sitting together to read books to one another. This helps them build relationships, grow in social development, and extend their learning in reading through peers. With flexible seating, my students will be able to improve their reading and social-emotional development.
