My students need novels that will peak their interest. They also need bean bag chairs and saucer chairs for a comfortable place for them to sit down with a book.
I am a 6th grade English language arts teacher in a Title 1 school. We have around 700 students in either 5th or 6th grade. I have the joy of teaching 90 of these students daily.
My class is very diverse with children from all backgrounds, each bringing something unique to our classroom.
They deal with many challenges inside and outside of school. I work very hard to create a positive learning environment where students know their thoughts, ideas, and voices are heard.
We use reading as a way to learn, experience new things, build our imagination, and learn many important life lessons. My students love when we do novel studies. My goal is to get them as interested in reading on their own as they do as a whole group.
My Project
I have a huge love for reading. I am a new teacher trying to build her library. My goal is to create a classroom library that my students will keep coming back to. I chose stories with multiple books in hopes that my students will fall in love with the first one and want to continue in the series. With the bean bag chairs and saucer chairs, my students will have a comfortable place in the classroom that they will want to go to read.
I want my students to have a variety of book choices in hopes they will find a character or situation that they can relate to.
My students can learn so much about perseverance, themselves, and how to treat others with something as small as a book. Thank you for taking the time to read about my classroom and students.
