Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 18 amazing students in a Title I school. Most of our students come from hard-working families who try their best to provide their children with the tools they need. However, many times we have to help them at school with the supplies as well. Our students have limited experiences beyond their neighborhoods. They don't always have access to visiting the library or technology resources at home. At school, they know they have a safe, caring environment where they can learn and get the help they need. They love coming to school because they feel "at home" knowing they have teachers who care and want the best for them.
My Project
I am requesting two new learning rugs and a sweeper for my classroom. Due to our school renovations, my scholars will have to sit on the tile floor when working in centers.
I try to make my classroom a place that feels like home.
My scholars love having the flexibility of sitting on wiggle stools and yoga balls and also sitting on the floor to read books or work in teams. This year, they need some comfortable options when sitting on the floor.
The new rugs will not only make our classroom a warm and inviting space, they also offer learning opportunity. One rug shows them the multiplication table which is a skill they must master in third grade. The other rug shows all the states in the USA. They will enjoy using these rugs for learning and mastery.
Finally, my scholars love having jobs to help in the room. I am requesting the bissell manual sweeper. This will allow them to learn responsibility and take pride in caring for our new rugs.
