Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My group of 4th grade scholars are far from being your typical students. They're part of a dynamic, unique, and intensive Dual Immersion Program. In our 50/50 dual language model, they have proven that even though their capacity to learn is working double-overtime their spirits and effort are able to power them through without any complaints. The students of Room 21 are diverse, innovative, and motivated learners, a perfect combination of success.
Our school curriculum is founded on the ideals of a Balanced Literacy Program where our Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop encourages independence, stamina, and a genuine love for reading and writing.
In order to sustain and thrive in this independent setting, my students are in need of some basic materials that will help facilitate their drive and love while they are in their reading and writing environment.
My Project
In our fast-paced technology-driven world, trying to find a cozy and tranquil spot becomes a race to find the best spot on the small area rug and the opportunity to lay on the 4 fluffy pillows available. By having a varied and numerous selection of pillows and more space from two shaggy carpets my students will be able to fully immerse themselves in a world of dual reading possibilities as if they were at home nestled in a place of warmth and imagination.
The ideal plan to continue enhancing the reading and writing environment that my students can benefit from is to provide the essential elements that’ll keep them engaged, comfortable, and motivated.
The items selected for our classroom were chosen by my students because they will be used by the students! This project will continue to increase their stamina and growing love for reading and writing.
The two area rugs and 16 pillows will help create two additional group areas where the students can discuss or share their thoughts during Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop. These specific area opportunities facilitate students abilities to work collaboratively and independently, especially in a classroom that requires a lot of higher order thinking.
