Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am privileged to be teaching a wonderful group of PreK students. They have demonstrated an eagerness to learn, play and help others. For the majority of my students, PreK is their first experience with school. Some did not know any English, others had difficulty with speech, and a few had a combination of both. So, it is understandable why they came to school scared and crying.
Now, my students are excited and happy to come to school.
I am filled with joy when I see them communicating, playing, and learning together. They did not let language get in their way of becoming friends, and sharing the excitement in each other's accomplishments.

My Project
My PreK students do a lot of learning while they are playing. They learn to share, learn to communicate, regulate emotions, problem solve, along with practice the skills we are learning in class.
Adding a cozy rug to the dramatic play area would be a great benefit to our classroom.
When students role-play families, in the kitchen, they sometimes accidentally drop pots and pans on the floor, and they go down with a big startling bang. Distracting not only the students in the dramatic play area but the whole classroom. The rug will help everyone stay focused on learning by diminishing the startling bangs.
The baskets will help students sort materials into the correct baskets. The baskets will be decorated with a laminated picture of what belongs in each specific basket.
