Help me give my students flexible seating during my small group instruction. I work with ten kids at a time for about thirty minutes. This will make the floor more comfortable.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I love my challenging group of fourth graders. Most of them come from lower socioeconomic families which causes them to come to school lacking experience and exposure to some basic things. The challenges come from being able to reach every student and allowing them to learn and grow despite their deficiencies.
What makes them special is the ability to come to school and learn even after being treated badly or spoken to harshly by their parents as they're being dropped off to school.
Or worried that you're going to get in trouble because you don't have your homework because you had to babysit your siblings the night before.
They face so many things at such an early age yet they still come to school. I feel it's my job to do all that I can to ensure that the time they spend with me is rewarding and fulfilling.
My Project
These materials will help my students focus much better as we complete our guided instruction lessons. We spend up to thirty minutes on the floor and sitting that long can become a little unbearable. We use dry erase boards to show our work and using the seats will give them some support and a surface to work on.
Imagine sitting on a hard floor for an extended amount of time trying to write on a white.
After awhile, paying attention to the math becomes difficult because your bottom or back is hurting. Providing this support for the students will allow them an opportunity to stay fully engaged in the learning process.
