This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This year I am moving to 2nd grade from 4th. I have limited personal funds to decorate my classroom and build a comfy, inviting environment. I would really like to create a space that feels warm, inviting, and comfy but has organizational structure and function. I believe that an aestheticly pleasing comfy space can facilitate learning and create a sense of community. I would like to add elements that provide a soft space for student to get lost in books and a beautiful, functional library /activity area.
My Project
Traditional classrooms often provide the basic materials to offer learners a safe space to learn, however, at times they can lack a pleasing, soothing aesthetic leaving students to yearn for some of the comforts of home in their learning environments.
DonorsChoose.org will give me the opportunity to change that in my classroom.
Adding flexible, comfy seating as well as hands-on engaging centers and leveled extension activities such as dry erase boards and sight word string-ups should help to produce a more inviting space. It is my hope that giving students the freedom to explore activities and spaces beyond the usual should help facilitate a more productive learning environment.
