The students that are in my Science classroom enjoy moving around the room to do classwork or complete station work. It would be so wonderful to provide my students with the flexible seating options of comfy bean bags with a rug to sit on while they are completing their work.
I need help with providing more comfortable and flexible seating arrangements for students to work in because I have students that love to work around the room instead of in their stiff desk chairs.
Teachers at our school are encouraged to provide flexible seating arrangements for our students and stray from the terrible arrangements of desks that are always in rows! In my classroom, I have circle tables that seat up to 4 students as well as squiggly shaped desks that can seat up to 6 students as necessary. I can also raise my desks to be at the level where they can stand to work. I have provided clipboards for students to work around the room but would like to have a comfy corner for them to sit at and do their work as well when they use the clipboards.
When my students are completing their work, they have the option to move around the classroom and freely work where they are the most comfortable. I myself have a difficult time sitting at a desk to do work and would rather lay on the floor or sit on the floor to do my work which is what most of my students like to do as well.
I have chosen the following items to help my students have a comfy and cozy corner in the classroom to complete their class and station work: 2 bean bag chairs and a fluffy rug.
Having these materials in my Science classroom will allow them to have a cozy little place to complete their research in books, on their iPads, and a place to sit and complete their classwork or station work. They can sit on the bean bag chairs with a clipboard from my room or even lay down with a clipboard on the rug to complete their work or a test. This space can also double as a safe spot for students to take a moment to calm down if they are having a bad day and then re-join us for class or for a student that needs that special sensory spot to complete work and tests to stay focused. .
